Prostate Cancer Symptoms
Prostate cancer symptoms cause the male to urinate frequently and often he will have difficulty. Usually there is urine retention, decrease in the size and force of the urinary stream, and often Hematuria occurs. Hematuria is blood in the urine.
Prostate cancer can block the flow of urination. At the initial phase, the male may find it difficult to urinate. Symptoms of prostate cancer vary depending on the level of disease. Early symptoms however are the ones named above. As the cancer progresses however, various other symptoms begin to develop.
When a man has difficulty urinating, immediately, after he urinates, his bladder still feels the pressure or the need to empty. Because the bladder fails to empty entirely, it causes a frequent need to urinate. Usually the frequentness starts during the night hours, which is referred as nocturia. The problem increases the need to urinate. Noticeably during urination, force and volume begin to decline. After the male urinates, he may notice trickles or dribbling once, he is finished.
The signs or symptoms change as the cancer develops. Some of the common problems could be that the obstruction of urine flow could cause retention, which slows the urination and affects the bladder. When pressure is applied to the bladder, it affects the kidneys. It puts increasing pressure on the kidneys and impedes its function. If the doctor relieves the pressure early, the complication could last for a short while.
However, if the obstruction continues affecting the bladder and kidneys, it could overstretch the bladder, which causes the excess incontinence. That is the inability to control defecation or urination. Once the bladder starts to stretch, the smaller veins will burst at times. This often occurs when the male strains to release his urination. It causes blood to enter into the urine. This is Hematuria development. The retention can also develop which means that it makes it impossible for the man to urinate and can lead to depressive feelings, or extensive pain. The pain usually is around the lower abdomen.
If malignant cancer is present, the man will notice similar signs of benign cancer. That is BPH, which includes difficulty urinating, and frequent urination. Usually, the symptoms do not develop until the cancer enlarges the prostate gland and compresses the urethra. It also blocks flow of urination partially. As the cancer develops, Hematuria will develop.
Some men experience signs of prostate cancer after it starts to metastasize, or spread. The bones then are affected, which usually include the pelvis, vertebrae, and ribs, as well as the kidney. If the cancer affects the bone, it could become very painful. It will also weaken the bones. Prostate cancer spreads and can reach the brain. The symptoms or problem can cause seizures, headaches, convulsions, weakness, and neurological complications.
The cancer can affect the spinal cord as well. This is common and when it affects the spine, it can cause numbness, pain, incontinence, (Enuresis, which is the involuntary passage of urine) and weakness. Anemia is common and occurs once the cancer begins to spread. Anemia is a blood deficiency, which fewer red blood cells become less, and it causes a hemoglobin deficiency. It results in poor health, weakness, and vitality.
